Let’s address the elephant (or dog) in the room

We’re not one to body-shame pooches with a little more to love, but dog obesity is a growing issue. Vets estimate that around half of the UK’s dogs are overweight and 1 in 14 are obese.

But despite these worrying trends, a survey of owners found that 82% did not think their dog had an issue with their weight. So something doesn’t quite add up. Podgy pooches have become more and more normalised, making it more tricky to spot when Spot has piled on a few pounds.

As proud pet parents, we may bury our head in the sand about our pooch’s puppy fat. But if your dog is carrying a bit too much extra weight, they could be at higher risk of developing health conditions. We all wish for our dog’s immortality - but a heavyweight hound’s lifespan is reduced, on average, by two years. 🙁

New research has found that some Labradors can carry a genetic mutation making them particularly prone to weight gain. Other breeds at higher risk of obesity include Pugs, Beagles and Golden Retrievers.

But those puppy eyes, specifically evolved for hypnotising hoomans into giving in to treats and titbits, are near impossible to resist. And treating your dog is an important and joyous part of bonding with your poochy pal.

But never fear, mutts with big butts. W’ZIS to the rescue.

Our treats are low in fat and 1 calorie per treat.

And unlike hooman diet snacks, there’s no blandness here. Full in flavour and a chewy texture - dogs can’t get enough of our healthy little morsels.

These treats must be delicious - Fig loves them! They are so low in calories that I can use them in training without the worry of her gaining extra weight.”

Treat generously, W’ZISers.
